Suman Pokhrel is a Nepali poet, lyricist, playwright, translator, and artist. He writes primarily in Nepali, and also in English, Hindi, and other South Asian languages. His poetry has been translated into multiple languages and featured in prominent literary journals worldwide. His theatrical and lyrical works have been performed in the United States, Asia, and Europe. Pokhrel’s poetry is part of the literature curricula at universities in Nepal and India. In Nepal, his poem Taj Mahal ra Mero Prem (“The Taj Mahal and My Love”) and the English translation of Standing in the Market are included in undergraduate and B.Ed. programs at Purbanchal University and Tribhuvan University, respectively. In India, his English poems You Are as You Are and the English version of Taj Mahal ra Mero Prem are studied in M.A. and B.A. programs at Kerala University, G.D. Goenka University, Mar Ivanios College, and Cauvery College for Women. He has translated and published works of over a hundred international poets and writers into Nepali, English, Hindi, and Urdu, and has authored eight books, including three collections of translations. Pokhrel has received multiple awards, including the SAARC Literary Award in 2013 and 2015 (the only recipient to earn it twice), the Asia’s Inspiring Poet Award in 2023, and the Shaluk International Literature Award. He was also named Author of the Month by Spillwords Press in 2023 and 2025.
